Daily Ride Plan

Below you will find the daily ride plan including daily mileage, total mileage and tentative accommodations.  I plan to rent houses large enough for the ride and support team (might need a few sleeping bags). I will request RV parking at each location and you will notice links to local lodging for people touring with the riders.

Day 1 – San Francisco to Sea Ranch

Sunday Sept. 16th

Day 1 mileage: 114 miles

We start our adventure at Great Highway and Noriega St. on Sunset Beach, San Francisco.  We will ride over the Golden Gate Bridge and make our way to Highway 1 (Shoreline Hwy) riding through Muir Woods National Monument, Point Reyes National Seashore and the Sonoma Coast State Park on our way to Sea Ranch.

Day 2 – Sea Ranch to Westport

Monday Sept. 17th

Day 2 mileage: 85 miles

We continue with ocean views as we wind our way up the Coast Hwy following the shoreline most of the day passing through the towns of Mendocino and Fort Bragg before completing the days ride at the small village of West Port. This is a shortest day for mileage but includes the biggest climb of the trip.

Day 3 – Westport to Eureka

Tuesday Sept 18th

Day 3 mileage: 136 miles

This is the longest but maybe the most beautiful ride of the Challenge. We leave the shore and venture inland to ride through redwood forests, riding through Standish-Hickey State Recreation area, Smithe Redwoods State Reserve, Richardson Grove State Park and Avenue of the Giants before heading back to the Pacific, finishing our long ride in Eureka.

 Day 4 – Eureka to Crescent City

Wednesday Sept 19th

Day 4 mileage: 87 miles

After the previous day’s long haul, today’s ride is shorter but still filled with redwoods.  We continue up the coast through Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park then cross the Klamath River before cruising through the Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park to Crescent City.

Day 5 – Crescent City to Bandon, Or.

Thursday Sept 20th

Day 5 mileage: 115 miles

Twenty miles north of Crescent City we cross the Oregon-California border.  Once in Oregon we pass through the town of Brookings and pass through the Samuel Boardman State Scenic Corridor before passing through the towns of Gold Beach and Port Orford.  Today is a longer ride, so we can ease our way to Yachats on our final day of riding.

Day 6 – Bandon Dunes to Yachats

Friday Sept 21st

Day 6 Mileage: 94 miles

Our last day of riding takes us from Bandon Dunes up the Coast Hwy through Coos Bay and over the bridge at North Bend. We cross another bridge at Reedsport and still another as we arrive in Florence. After we leave Florence we ride along high ocean cliffs past the Sea Lion Caves, Heceta Head Light House and Cape Perpetua before swooping down into the the small resort town of Yachats….our final destination.
