Eating in 2008

January 25, 2008 By: admin Category: Food, diet, eating

I’ve set a goal to loose over 20 pounds but after 4 months of running and working out I’m disappointed with the results.  My running has improved, but I’ve dropped only a few pounds.  I run an average of 20-25 miles a week, you’d think with that kind of mileage I’d be able to loose some weight.

If weight loss is a result of a combination of diet and exercise I figure I must be messing up one side of the equation.  I’ve been getting the exercise but I haven’t really concentrated on what I eat.  So for 2008 I am making some changes.

Daily Food Plan

Breakfast -

-Small bowl of 7 grain cereal with dried blueberries and some coffee.vitamix

Lunch -

-  A 16 oz. smoothie made with a Vitamix.  More about the smoothie mix later.

-A couple of handfuls of nuts.

Dinner -

- A small portion of chicken, salmon or beef

-1-2 cups of steamed rice

-Coleslaw or some other veggie.

-1/2 an Apple

Later in the evening I may have a couple of crackers or more nuts and that’s it.   I’m not sure how many calories this is, but I’ll bet it’s less than 2,500 per day.

I’ve been doing this for several days already with no problems.  The smoothie and nuts are quite filling so I can make it through to dinner without extra snacks.

I’ll be checking the scales and hope I can drop a few pounds.

By mixing a more controlled diet with the exercise I should start seeing some weight loss.

My Food Plan

The food plan will start with the USDA’s Food Pyramid and from there we will develop a set of guide lines for healthy eating.   Food is not evil.  Eating is not a sin.

Food is good and essential to our good living and long lives, but we must make the right choices in our food plan; eat what’s healthy and have the discipline to turn away from food stuff’s that are simply empty calories or could cause harm to us.
